We would like to share with you our hopes and dreams, as well as our heritage, culture, and lifestyle.
We will soon be able to share information about opportunities to visit our valley and enjoy the rich natural beauty of the region, and ways for people near and far to support our community projects in accessing education, health care, clean water, and a sustainable economy. We hope to chart a course that may be an inspiration to other traditional communities as they they make their own way into the future.

Learn More about Turkana
Turkana County is situated at the northwest corner of Kenya, on the shores of the Jade Sea, aka Lake Turkana. The county is home to numerous cultural groups, the most populous being the Turkana people. The capital is Lodwar.
Turkana is said to be the cradle of humankind because of its extensive paleontological and archeological record, and the many famous finds made here, such as the Turkana Boy Homo erectus skeleton, the Black Skull of Paranthropus aethiopicus, and so many others.
Many Turkana people still follow the traditional semi-nomadic pastoralist lifestyle; others are settling down and moving to town. Today the region is rapidly evolving, with new economic opportunities opening up.
The people of Topernawi are looking for a way to transition into the new economy, while maintaining the aspects of their traditional lifeways they most cherish. Topernawi. wants progress, but we do not want to give up our beads!
